Apple Inc. has announced iOS 12, and this version of their mobile operating system is packed full of features. In summary, the company says that iOS 12 is faster, more secure, and more responsive. Below, we itemise the iOS 12 features and break them down for you.
iOS 12 Features and Improvements
Below are the major enhancements and improvements that iOS brings to the table, as well as the expected roll-out date and eligible devices.
Performance
Apple says that whether you are swiping to launch the camera, initiating the keyboard to type, or launching apps, the experience will be faster. Expect up to 70% faster in some cases.
AI-enhanced Camera
Portrait mode photos have improved. Camera now generates a mask when it detects a person and intelligently and elegantly separates the person from the scene.
More Intelligent Photos
Photos have been improved with a new feature that suggests who to share your pictures. Search suggestions also help you find the photo you’re looking for.
Group FaceTime
FaceTime has been enhanced with the ability to converse with up to 32 people at once. The tile of the person speaking will get larger automatically.
Improved Siri
Siri can now pair daily routines with third-party apps to suggest convenient shortcuts. You can also run shortcuts with your voice. You can create your own shortcuts with the new Shortcuts app. Get race stats for motorsports, find answers to food and celebrity questions. Quickly look up a password, or search for your photo memories.
Auto Do Not Disturb
One of the new iOS 12 features allows you to set Do Not Disturb for a meeting or location and it will de-activate automatically when the meeting ends or when you leave a location.
Memoji
iOS 12 lets you customise personalised emojis for yourself. You can create as many as you want. Memojis are available for the iPhone X.
Augmented Reality
iOS developers are now able to create more immersive augmented reality experiences. AR objects can now be sent with Messages and Mail, then viewed in the real world. And a new AR app in iOS called Measure helps you measure real-world objects just by pointing your camera at them.
Notifications Management
iOS 12 lets you manage your notifications in real time from the Lock screen. Also, message threads and notification topics are grouped together for easier management.
Screen Time
Gives you a greater understanding of the time you and your kids spend using apps, visiting websites, and on your devices overall.
User Privacy
Safari browser now prevents Share buttons and comment widgets on web pages from tracking you without your permission. It also prevents advertisers from collecting your device’s unique characteristics. That way, they can’t identify your device or re-target ads to you across the web.
There are many other, smaller improvements to iOS that you will find as you use your updated iPhone, iPad or iPod.
